How to Register for a Kentucky KYU (Weight Distance) Number

1. Determine If You Need a KYU

You must get a KYU number if you operate commercial vehicles with a combined licensed weight of 60,000 lbs or more on Kentucky highways (this applies whether you’re based in Kentucky or out of state).  

 


3. Apply Online for Your KYU Number

  • Go to the https://www.kentuckytruckingonline.com/accounts/login , enter your email address, and receive your KYU personal cabinet for your reports

  • When completed online, you’ll be issued your KYU number immediately on screen (keep a copy for your records).  

Pro tip: You don’t have to display the KYU number on your vehicles unless you are operating under a leased authority — but you do need it for compliance and filings. 

 


5.   Charge for the Permanent KYU Number is $97 per truck.

 


6. Quarterly Filing and Tax Reporting
