Your truck is not registered under IRP (International Registration Plan)
→ You're operating a commercial vehicle interstate (in or through Kentucky) without apportioned plates.
✅ In this case, you need a Temporary Kentucky Trip Permit. -
You are not registered under IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement)
→ You're driving a qualified vehicle (usually over 26,000 lbs GVW or 3+ axles) without an IFTA decal.
✅ You’ll need a Kentucky Temporary Fuel Permit. -
You're over 59,999 lbs GVWR and don’t have a KYU number
→ Kentucky requires trucks over 59,999 lbs to register for the KYU Weight-Distance Tax.
✅ If you don’t have a KYU number, you must get a Temporary KYU Permit.
